Cougar Volleyball on the Road

By: Tierney Sothman

On Saturday, September 27th, the varsity volleyball team traveled to Corning for the Southwest Valley tournament. First, they played Southwest Valley and lost 0-2. Then they played Exira-EHK and also lost 0-2. It was a tough morning for the Cougars. On Tuesday, September 30th, the team traveled to Elk Horn to take on the Exira-EHK Spartans. During the varsity game, Jessica Aupperle had 11 kills and Mackenzie Cross had 4 blocks. The Cougars ended up losing 1-3. The matches’ scores were 25-23, 10-25, 23-25, and 20-25. On Thursday, October 2nd, the team traveled to Mondamin to play the West Harrison Hawkeyes. During the varsity game, Jessica Aupperle and Mackenzie Schwenke had 10 kills each. Mackenzie Schwenke also had 4 aces and 14 digs. CAM came out on top going 3-0. The matches’ scores were 25-16, 25-21, and 25-20. “The freshmen, JV, and varsity teams all played well, we started off slow both days, but got into our groove and played our game.  The girls are really coming together at the end of the year and continue to show improvement,” stated Coach Wollum. The Cougars plan to finish the rest of the season out strong.

Some of the things that this fundraiser has helped pay for in the past include a new handicap swing for the playground, a school-wide trip to the Civic Center for a Flat Stanley production, the annual skating trip to Playtime Roller Rink in Atlantic, Red Ribbon Week decorations and treats, the end of the year zoo trip, the new playground equipment, a trip to the apple orchard and many other trips throughout the school year. Enjoy a pizza and help out CAM North Elementary Student Council!

CAM Battles Through For The Win

By Connor Bell

On Friday, October 3rd, the CAM Cougars battled the Nishnabotna Blue Devils.  After a long bus ride, the boys were ready to get on the field and start playing some football!  It was a slow start to the game, and the Blue Devils scored first and gave the Cougars some scares. It was a tough battle the entire game, but the Cougars came out on top.  There was a lot of ground and pound run game between the two teams trying to move the ball up the field.  CAM had a pretty good night throwing the ball leading to three touchdowns in the air.  It was a tougher game than it should have been because the boys did not show up with enough emotion to shut down Nishnabotna.  The Blue Devils stayed around as long as they could, but in the end, the Cougars ran away with the win. Coach Wollum was happy that his team won, but a little disappointed with the emotion the boys had. "We didn't play with enough emotion and fire from the get go.  It was disappointing, but we came out with a win. We need to play with more emotion if we want to have a chance this week.”

FFA Fruit Sales Start

By KLani Waters

The CAM FFA started fruit sales on October 1st and will continue selling through October 27th. They are also selling meat, cheese, breads, cookies, and pastries.  The purpose of the sale is to help earn money for the ski trip and the CAM FFA program. Each student will need to sell at least $350 worth of products to go on the ski trip. First, second, and third top selling students will receive a prize.  If you are interested in purchasing, be sure to contact an FFA student or Mr. Miller at the high school.

Oklahoma! Committees

By: Brooklyn Wendt

In order for the musical Oklahoma! to be a success, the cast has to have duties. Everyone is in a committee. The committees are props, set, publicity, makeup, costume, and technology. There are several people in each committee. There have to be “group leaders” for each committee. For the set committee the group leader is Amberlye Ervin. The set committee is in charge of painting and drawing a background and organizing the stage so it looks appropriate. The prop committee’s group leaders are Collin Giegerich and Kyla Gurley. The prop committee has to bring or find all the props for the musical. What’s a musical without costumes? The costume committee’s group leader is Mariah Murphy. The costume committee has to find the correct costume for each character and it has to be the perfect fit. The publicity group leader is Katie Aupperle. The publicity committee has to come up with printed programs for display in our communities. The group also comes up with the T-shirt designs. The group leader of the technology committee is Makayla Stuetelberg.  This committee is in charge of sound effects, recording, and putting post-production video together. Last but not least is the makeup committee led by Shalyn Smith.  They are in charge of hairstyles and makeup for the production. With committees taking care of all these duties the musical should be a success!
